Akbar Birbal Stories
Cattleman And His Awakening
Tired of his wife's complaints, Birbal gets out for some fresh air. As he walks through the tiny roads of his village, he sees a group of friends singing and having a good time and sharing stories; a mother feeding her child; a policeman helping an elderly man; and all sorts of good things.
He thinks to himself,
'What a lovely day'
'The village is so peaceful, and the people are so kind to each other; it's like reading a story where all the people in the village are kind and helpful.'
He walks by as people greet him.
Akbar suddenly appears in Birbal's way.
Birbal: Greetings, your majesty,
Akbar: Good day! Isn't it Birbal?
Birbal: Yes, Your Highness, it's a good day.
Akbar: Here, come with me; let's walk along.
Akbar and Birbal start walking together, watching the good views the village has to offer.
Suddenly, they see that a cattleman is beating a calf without mercy while the mother cow cries in pain.
Akbar: Birbal, do you see this? Apprehend this man right now.
Birbal immediately thinks about a way to make the man aware of his mistake.
Akbar: Can you not hear me, Birbal? Or do you want me to call my soldiers and arrest the both of you? (Akbar shouts angrily!)
Birbal (with a little smile on his face): Your Highness, why don't you give me until tomorrow, and I will teach the cattleman a lesson?
Akbar: It better be a good one, or I will teach you a lesson—a lesson of obedience.
Akbar and Birbal go to their homes. The next morning, Birbal goes to the school where the cattleman's son, Chintu, studies. He meets his teacher and tells him to act as if he is beating Chintu for not doing his homework.
Birbal then goes to the cattleman's house and tells him that a teacher is beating Chintu mercilessly.
The cattleman rushes to the school and hears Chintu crying loudly. The cattleman started crying after hearing the cries of his son.
Rushingly, he enters the room and finds out that Chintu is not being beaten, and it is all drama.
As he turns back, he sees that Akbar and Birbal are sitting behind him.
Birbal: When you heard that someone was beating your child, you rushed to save him and even started crying yourself. Imagine how the cow felt when you were beating its calf in front of its eyes.
The cattleman realized his mistakes and apologized for his behavior.
The moral of the story is that before you do any harm to other living beings, put yourself in their place and see how you might feel about it.

Akbar Forgets His Anniversary
In the grand court of Emperor Akbar, there were all his ministers and advisors talking about strategies to develop their country and other matters of the kingdom. Akbar was happy to see his courties working hard. However, all the happiness was lost after what Birbal said to him. Birbal had reminded Akbar about his marriage anniversary.
Akbar's eyes opened up, and his mood changed quickly when he realized that the anniversary was tomorrow.
Akbar felt the fear he had never felt in his life—fear of his queen. There was so little time, but so much to do. He had to organize a ceremony, invite guests, buy gifts, and select dresses. Akbar's heart raced with urgency and fear. He began hurrying and trying to do everything at once.
Birbal, noticing Akbar's rush, advised him to slow down and take his time. But Akbar, so fearful of facing the wrath of the queen if things weren't perfect, dismissed Birbal's advice and continued rushing.
Akbar and Birbal hurried to the market to purchase gifts and dresses. While trying to do everything at once, Akbar selected a dress that turned out to be of poor quality and forgot to invite the queen's former family.
As the anniversary celebration began, Akbar's hurried efforts left bad impressions on the queen and their guests. The food was below average, the gifts were not good, and the absence of the queen's family made the queen sad. She was very angry with Akbar as she exited the ceremony and went to her chamber with eyes full of tears.
Akbar felt an earthquake coming as he turned to Birbal for guidance. Birbal reminded Akbar of the advice he had given him earlier to not rush. Because he was trying to do everything in a hurry, nothing had been done properly.
Akbar realized his mistake and asked Birbal for a solution to make the queen happy. Birbal suggested Akbar apologize to the queen and tell her everything that had happened because of his forgetful and hurrying nature.
Akbar quickly hurried to the queen's chamber and asked forgiveness by confessing that he had forgotten about the anniversary and had to do everything quickly to make her happy.
The queen did not take much time to realize that even though the preparations for the anniversary were bad, Akbar did everything only to please her and make her happy.
Akbar was filled with joy after the queen forgave him and grateful for Birbal's guidance. Akbar acknowledges the value of having a wise advisor such as Birbal by his side.
Akbar learned that rushing through tasks often leads to mistakes. And honesty and patience can solve great problems and restore harmony and happiness in our families and kingdom

Parrot the Fortune-Teller
In the royal court of Akbar, a traveler named Tilak enters with a parrot in his hand. This quickly drew everyone's attention as he stood in front of Akbar.
With a soft voice, he says, “Your Highness, I am a traveler from a kingdom very far from here. I have a truly special gift from the gods of heaven: a parrot. It can see glimpses of the future.”
Akbar was very interested in hearing more as he said, “A parrot, you say? Well then, prove it to me, and if you fail in doing so, you will be strictly punished.”
The traveler with ill intentions says, “Let me advise you that the parrot only says what he sees, and the future is not always good.”
After hearing this, Birbal understood that the traveler had something planned. The traveler then says that the parrot had seen Akbar’s future, and it was very important that he heard this.
The traveler then commands the parrot to predict Akbar’s future.
The parrot says, “Akbar is going to die! Akbar is going to die.”
The royal court became silent after hearing this, and Akbar did not want to believe what he heard. The traveler then says, “Apologies, your highness, but the parrot only speaks what he sees.” The traveler then goes away.
When Birbal was returning home, he passed through the market. He saw a man talking with a parrot. Birbal moved towards that man and asked him about what he was doing. The man said that he was training a parrot to speak some words. Bibal understood what the traveler had done in court. Birbal asked the man if he could train the parrot to say something. The man agreed, and they met in the royal court the next day.
The traveler was summoned with his parrot, and now two men were holding a parrot in their hands. Birbal then says, “Your Highness, I have also found a parrot with a blessing from Heaven.”
The man commands the parrot to say what he was trained to say. The parrot says, “The traveler is a thief, and his parrot is a lie." The traveler was shocked to hear this.
Birbal then says, “If this is not true, then tell your parrot to say it.” The traveler did not have an answer, as he had not trained his parrot to tell this.
The lies of the traveler were clear to everyone, and Akbar was grateful to Birbal once again.
The traveler was put in prison for his lies and everything, and the kingdom of Akbar was back to its best again. The courties understood that lies and trickery would come back to haunt us, so we must never lie or cheat.

- Akbar Punishes Birbal: A Sad day for the Kingdom
In the kingdom of Akbar, laughter and joy filled the air, as trees danced and rivers sang songs of nature. However, the kingdom began to face challenges as its forests gradually diminished. Birbal was concerned and went looking for the cause of the problem.
As he was strolling through the forest, he witnessed a few people cutting down trees. He immediately confronted them and gave them a warning. They advised Birbal that they had been paying royalty to Emperor Akbar for those trees, and they weren’t doing anything against the law. Birbal did not care about it because of the harm it was doing to nature and the kingdom.
A few months went by, and Akbar realized that the kingdom’s treasury had collected very little gold and silver as compared to the previous months. He immediately ordered Birbal to bring forward the tree cutters that had not been paying royalty for a long time. Birbal then told Akbar everything that happened in the forest and how he had commanded that they stop cutting the trees. After hearing this, Akbar became furious at Birbal and angrily dismissed him as his closest advisor.
The tree-cutters were allowed to cut the trees once again, and soon enough the treasury doubled over the past few months. Akbar was thrilled with the situation and the royalties he was receiving. With only a handful of trees remaining in the forest, the kingdom became a victim to landslides and soil erosion. The villagers lost their housed because of the landslides and many were injured. Akbar then summoned a nature expert to deal with the situation. After thorough inspection, the expert suggested that deforestation had caused landslides and degraded the quality of the soil.
Akbar came to realize that Birbal had been right all along. He felt ashamed of his actions and his immaturity in understanding the value of nature.Without wasting a moment, Akbar summoned Birbal, apologized to him, and reinstated him to his former post as the closest advisor to the Emperor.
Birbal once again ordered the tree-cutters to stop cutting any more trees from the forest and initiated reforestation with the help of the villagers. Soon enough, the forest was full of trees, and the kingdom no longer faced any natural calamities.
Tress are essential components of nature, influencing every aspect of the environment. They promote greenery, enhance soil quality, improve air quality, and serve as a natural barrier against various natural disasters. It’s important that we initiate plantations and reforestation and stop cutting trees for our selfish needs.
- Lesson and Story: Mistakes And Consideration
Love and compassion were valued above everything else in the kingdom of Akbar. People lived in harmony and peace. One day, Akbar and Birbal decided to visit the schools in their kingdom to check the quality of education provided to the children. As they passed through each class, they saw teachers treating their students with kindness and care and creating an environment of learning and nurturing. Akbar was happy with what he was seeing.
Their mood instantly dropped when he heard someone shouting. As they moved closer, they saw a teacher named Sunil, who was shouting at a little child in front of the entire class.
The boy was very frightened, and his eyes were full of tears. Time and again, he apologized and begged for forgiveness, but Sunil continued to scold the boy with rage for the simple mistake of forgetting a book!!!
Seeing the little boy being punished for a simple mistake, Akbar became sad and emotional and could not tolerate such harsh treatment. Angrily, Akbar commanded that the teacher be arrested and sent to prison. However, Birbal advised that there must be a better way to make him realize his mistake and suggested that they come back tomorrow with a moral plan.
The next day, Akbar and Birbal went to the school at assembly time. As they were entering through the school gate, they noticed something on the notice board that created an idea in Birbal’s mind. Akbar swiftly moved ahead of the assembly and quickly grabbed everyone’s attention.
He announced that there would be an inspection in the school and that everyone should stand in a straight line, even teachers. The royal guards started inspecting them one by one and pulled some students out of the assembly line. Along with the students, they also took Sunil, the math teacher, out of the line and placed him with the students. Sunil was very embarrassed to be placed in a group of little kids.
Birbal then announced that this inspection was based on the rules that were written on the school’s notice board, and according to the rules, everyone must wear their identity cards on the school premises.
The punishment for not following the rules is to stand on the playground for an hour. Birbal also expressed his dissatisfaction with a grown-up teacher not following the school rules in front of the whole assembly. However, the teacher thought that it was a small mistake and that the punishment was harsh. Birbal then reminded Sunil how he was scolding the little child for the simple mistake of not bringing his book that day.
Sunil realized that simple mistakes can be made by anyone, and we should react not with rudeness and anger but with compassion and consideration. He was very ashamed of his behavior toward the student, and he apologized for his mistake. Akbar and Birbal both knew that the teacher had made a mistake. Normal then dismissed the punishment given to them as a simple mistake.
- A Strange Westerner: Akbar And Birbal Out For Shopping
Akbar and Birbal were talking about Western countries and realized that both of them were very unfamiliar with their culture.
Akbar: Birbal, how very little knowledge do we have about the West and their culture? Being the emperor of such a strong country, I should at least know other countries and maintain a good relationship with them.
Birbal: That is a good thing you have realized, Your Highness; you should be aware of other countries and maintain a relationship with them.
All of a sudden, a Westerner comes shouting,
Westerner (arguing with guards at the palace gate): I cannot tolerate this behavior! Where is your king? Take me to him right now!
Akbar and Birbal both hear this.
Akbar (shouts angrily): Maintain peace in the palace! This is not a marketplace.
Birbal: Let me check, Your Highness; you must be a foreigner.
Westerner (still angry and unhappy): Do you always treat your guests like this?
Birbal to guards: Let the guest pass through.
The Westerner comes through the gate and into the palace.
Westerner: Thank you, good man! I was trying to get in to talk with the emperor, but these guards won’t let me through. Please take me to the emperor.
Birbal: I apologize for the incident. You are most welcome here, and you are also free to speak with our emperor.
Birbal takes the Westerner to Akbar.
Westerner: Greetings, Your Highness. I am a visitor from the West. I tried explaining this to the guards, but they wouldn’t listen.
Akbar: They must have been surprised to see such a white man in our country.
(They all laugh.)
Akbar: However, we are sorry you had to go through it. We were just talking about the West and how little we know about them, and suddenly you come shouting! What a coincidence!
Westerner: Your Highness, the West is very different from here, but we share the same morals and values. How about I introduce you to our culture?
Akbar and Birbal Together: That would be great!
Westerner: So then, let’s change your apparel first.
All of them go to the market to buy new clothes. The Westerners buy them clothes they have never seen before.
Akbar: What kind of dresses do we have in our country?
Birbal: I am surprised myself, Your Highness. And look how short they are.
Westerner: They are shorter than what you wear around here, but they surely are very comfortable. Here, try this.
Akbar and Birbal try the new apparel and laugh at each other.
Akbar (laughs): Birbal, your dress is so short that it looks like you are not wearing anything.
Birbal (laughs): Your Highness, even though you look like you aren’t wearing anything, this is what people wear in Western countries.
All of them go out of the shop wearing what the Westerner suggested. Suddenly, all the people passing by look towards Akbar and Birbal and laugh.
A tradesman says, “Did your son trim your dresses when you were asleep, Birbal?”?
All the people in the market laugh.
Another person says, “Birbal, I could have given you new clothes if you had asked me. Why are you wearing small clothes as if you didn’t have money to buy good clothes?”
Akbar realized that people were not saying anything to him because he was the emperor. He covered his face with a cloth and went straight to the palace.
The Westerner was shocked to see such reactions.
Akbar shouts angrily, “What kind of dresses are these? I am not wearing anything like these again.”
Birbal: I agree, Your Highness, that we should not disregard our own culture under the influence of Western culture. Let’s immediately take these off.
The Westerners knew that both liked their dresses but did not want to wear them as people laughed at them. He also knew that Birbal was only making an excuse of ‘disregarding their culture.
Westerner: Okay, Your Highness, now let’s try something else from Western culture.
Akbar and Birbal both shout: No, no, we think this is enough for now.
All of them laugh and head out to show their village to the Westerners.
- Friends and Enemies: Enemy Attacks On Emperor Akbar
It was the day of the festival, and the village was full of joy. All the villagers gathered in the market for the festival program. Akbar and Birbal were also preparing themselves for the festival.
As Akbar was coming out of his palace, a masked bandit took out his knife and swung it towards Akbar. The bandit missed his target and was unable to harm Akbar.
The masked man somehow manages to run away, but Birbal is worried about the situation and advises Akbar to remain in the chamber for the day.
Akbar did not listen to Birbal and went out to enjoy the festival. Birbal was very alert and was worried for the whole day until the festival ended. Thankfully, nothing bad happened, and everyone was safe.
The next day, Akbar and Birbal planned to go hunting. In the early morning, they called one of their guards and asked him to prepare their horses for hunting on Sultan Point. They both got up on their horses and went off to hunt. As soon as they got to Sultan Point, 10 masked bandits were waiting for them, and they surrounded them as soon as they came close.
Akbar: How dare you? Do you know who I am?
Bandit: You are the emperor Akbar, and we have been waiting for you.
As they were talking, the royal guards came, and so the bandits fled. This was the second time Akbar was attacked, and this time there were more men. It became a subject of worry for Birbal.
The next day, Akbar and Birbal had a meeting with a tradesman from the neighboring country. Birbal asked the guard to prepare the horses to visit the tradesman.
Birbal was worried that there might be another attack on Akbar. They went out on their horses to visit the tradesman and were halfway there. Suddenly, a bandit appeared on a horse with bows and arrows. He attacked Akbar and inflicted a wound on his hands. Akbar and Birbal both retreated quickly and went back to the palace as fast as they could.
Akbar was very angry and wanted to find out who those bandits were. He summoned Birbal at once and asked him to find out who was behind this.
Birbal thought for a moment and realized something.
Akbar: Why are you still here? I told you to find those attackers.
Bibral: Just a minute, Your Highness, I think I am on to something.
Akbar: Well, then, speak up!
Birbal: When we were going to Sultan Point for hunting, no one knew where we were going, but the bandits were already there. The next day, when we traveled to visit the tradesman, no one knew where we were going, but the bandits were there again.
Akbar (angrily): I know the bandits were there already; I just don’t know who they were. Shouldn’t you be looking for them already instead of telling me what I already know?
Birbal (smiles): Your Highness, no one knew where we were going except for one man.
Akbar: Who is it?
Birbal: The guard who prepared our horses. If I remember correctly, I told him and no one else about where we were going.
Akbar understood that the guard was informing the bandits about where they were going. He then called the guard and started questioning him.
The guard finally revealed that the bandits from the neighboring country were behind this. The guard was offered a lot of money for the information.
The next day, Birbal ordered the guard to lie to the bandits and tell them that Akbar was going for a village visit.
Birbal took his soldiers and waited near the roads. After the guard informed the bandits about Akbar’s next visit, they quickly got up on their horses and went to set up another trap for Akbar.
Little did they know that Birbal was already there with his soldiers. As soon as the bandits arrived, soldiers trapped them and tied them up.
They were taken to the palace and sent to prison.
Akbar was very happy with Birbal, and he gave him lots of gold as a reward.
- Akbar Birbal Stories: Quarrel In The Market
A fight broke out in the market between the vendors. It drew everyone’s attention in the crowd, and people slowly gathered around it.
Akbar and Birbal passed through the market when they noticed a big crowd blocking the way.
“It must be a street magic show,” Bibal said.
Akbar replied, “That does not give them the right to block other people’s way; let’s find out what’s going on.”
They both move towards the crowd and notice that two vendors are fighting.
Birbal quickly made them aware of Akbar’s presence.
The fight settled down as soon as they saw Akbar.
“Have we not made it clear that creating chaos in the marketplace is punishable?” said Akbar
One of the vendors said, “I am sorry, your Highness, but this man has been stealing goods from me.”
Is that right? Birbal asked
Vendor: No, your Highness, I have been telling him that it’s not me that is stealing his goods, but he does not seem to understand.
Birbal: Hmm, so you are not the thief.
Birbal quickly understood that it was the work of someone else.
The villagers were highly religious. Even thieves and burglars believed in God.
He thought that the thief may still be in the crowd, so he quickly drew the attention of the crowd.
Birbal: Stealing is a crime, and anyone who steals will be punished. To find the real thief, we are going to ask for God’s judgment. Everybody! Point your hands up toward the sun.
Everyone quickly points their hand toward the sun and waits for Birbal’s next instruction.
Birbal: From the old days, it is believed that whenever you point your hand towards the sun and then lower it after counting to three, your hand will fall off if you have stolen something. Now count to three and lower your hands.
All the villagers lower their hands except for one. He was scared, thinking if he lowered his hand, it would fall off.
Akbar understood what Birbal was trying to do. The man did not put his hands down for fear of losing his arm. They both look at each other and laugh.
Soldiers arrested the thief, and the vendors thanked Birbal and apologized to each other.
Akbar praised Birbal for his quick thinking and clever attitude.
- Story of Akbar Birbal: A Plot To Harm Birbal
Akbar and Birbal were in the royal court along with the other ministers, sharing stories of their bravery.
“I was going for a picnic in the jungle area with my family, and all of a sudden I saw a lion. I defeated the lion and protected my family,” a minister said.
Another minister became jealous and said, “That’s nothing; you saw a lion. When I was going for a picnic in the jungle area, I saw a group of lions. I was able to defeat all of them at once and protect my family.”
Akbar and Birbal looked at each other and smiled at each other, realizing the stories were made-up and not real.
Akar: Okay now, I know all of you are very brave and intelligent. But none of you are as brave and intelligent as Birbal, am I right, Birbal?
Birbal (speaks with hesitation): I don’t… I am not sure… If you say so, your highness.
All the ministers became jealous of Birbal.
After the meeting, the minister gathered in a place. They knew that as long as Birbal was alive and well, they would never be able to become close with the king or ever become a prime minister. This feeling worried them. They could not come up with any better ways to get rid of them. One of them suggested that we injure him and blame it on the neighboring country.
They all agreed on this.
In the evening, all of them gathered in the royal court for a meeting. They submitted their monthly report to the king and informed him about conditions of the villagers.
All the ministers were speaking shakingly, constantly looking at each other, and behaving unusually. Birbal knew something was not right. After the meeting, Birbal decided to follow them.
He carefully followed them into the jungle and saw his ministers digging a hole. He then knew that the ministers were jealous of him and wanted to harm him.
The ministers did their job and went away.
The next morning, when the king and his ministers were walking to the village, they came close to the hole they had dug last night. They started looking at each other and making gestures.
The hole they dug was two steps away. As they all took a step further, all the ministers fell into big holes. They were in pain and shock.
Didn’t we dig only one hole yesterday? one of them said.
The king was angry with his ministers for such a foul act.
Birbal pointed at another hole one step ahead of them that was meant for him.
Birbal: Your Highness, when we gathered in the court yesterday, I realized something was off. I followed them and found out they had been planning to harm me by digging a big hole. So, after they went, I dug the other four holes just a step behind the hole that was meant for me.
Akbar: Shame on you! Such evil doings in my country are not tolerable, let alone by my ministers. I therefore sentence all of you to prison for life.
The ministers started crying and asking for mercy.
Bibal: Your Highness, I request that you show a little mercy on them. After all, these are men with families and kids.
Akbar: How kind and thoughtful you are, Birbal. Their families indeed need them, but this crime should not go unpunished. I order all of you to leave the country with your families and not step into this country again.
Birbal: Does that apply to me as well, Your Highness?
Akbar: Not you, Birbal, not you.
Akbar and Birbal both laugh and go back to the palace.
- A Sneaky Ghost In The Village
Akbar and Birbal were having a good time sharing stories of the past. The room was full of laughter and joy until a group of villagers came running towards them.
Villagers: Help us, your Majesty; please help us!
Akbar: What has happened? What are you all so worried about? You look as if you just saw a ghost.
Villagers: Yes, Your Majesty, We have indeed seen a ghost; it has been scaring people at night.
Birbal (with a smile): A ghost? In our village? Now that’s a new challenge!
Akbar: This is not a joke. Birbal, the villagers are scared, and you know how much I care about my people’s safety. This must be dealt with seriously.
Birbal: Sorry, Your Highness, I just can’t hear about ghosts and not laugh.
Akbar (angrily): So you think all these villagers are stupid? Do you think these people are here to joke around with me?
Akbar suddenly gets an idea.
Akbar: All right then, I want you to solve this problem, and remember that you have until tomorrow night. If you are unable to do it, you will be exiled from the country.
Birbal gets serious, realizing that his future in the country is at stake.
Birbal takes a group of his guards and instructs them to scan the village area at night and report to him in the morning. The guards do as instructed but find nothing decisive.
Guards: We are sorry, Your Highness; we could not locate the ghost.
Birbal (with a smile): So you still think that it was a ghost and not a thief?
Guards: Yes, Your Highness, if it were a thief, we would have caught him by now.
Birbal laughs and goes off to the palace.
As he entered the meeting hall, he saw all the king’s advisors gossiping about rumors about him getting exiled from the country.
Akbar: So, did you catch the thief yet? (All the advisors become silent.)
Birbal: Not yet, Your Highness. I am here to request an extension of one day.
All the advisors start murmuring, and the emperor grabs everyone’s attention at once.
Silence in the hall! Akbar shouted,
Akbar: Birbal, I have not become an emperor by changing my decisions; I need to be strict and fair with everyone. Because you were unable to solve the case, I demand you leave the country before sunrise tomorrow.
Birbal was unhappy about the situation; he went home and told his wife (Asma) everything about what had happened.
Asma: What happened was very unfair. The thief is out free, and you are being punished for his crimes? You have served the emperor for so many years now, is this how you are rewarded?
Birbal thinks for a while, comes up with an idea and shares it with Asma. He tells his wife to remain in the country, as the emperor has only banned Birbal from the kingdom and not his wife.
Birbal leaves the country and cleverly positions himself at the border, and waits.
As it became dark, he kept his eyes open for any unusual activity. Suddenly, he sees a man wearing a white shirt entering the country. He followed him into the village and saw him enter a house.
As soon as he entered the house, a family started screaming and exiting the house with fear. The thief had already stolen all the valuables before the villagers came.
The thief ran out of the house, and while rushing out, he even collided with the door and tore his shirt.
The next morning, Birbal went to the Emperor’s court. As he entered the room, all the advisers were in shock.
Akbar: So now you have the guts to disobey my orders?
Birbal: Apologies, Your Highness. I have found the ‘Ghost’ you were referring to. I saw it yesterday with my own eyes!
Akbar: So now you realize that ghosts exist? Why have you come here? Did you catch the ghost?
Birbal: Not yet, Your Highness. But I have a proposal for you: if I catch the ghost before tomorrow’s sunrise, let me be in this land, which is very dear to me. But if I don’t find the ghost, I will leave here with my family and never lay my eyes on this land.
Akbar thinks for a moment and says,
Akbar: Since you have served me with complete loyalty for years, I will grant you that opportunity. But if you fail to do what you have promised, I will not only exile you and your family but also take control of all your possessions.
Birbal: That’s fair, Your Highness.
As it became dark, Birbal went to the exact place where he saw the thief come from and waited for him. The thief once again appeared and started moving to his next targeted house. Birbal thought it would be better if he caught the thief red-handed, so he waited for the right time.
The thief somehow became aware that someone was spying on him and tried to run away without stealing anything to save his life. Birbal quickly stood in his way and caught him, but the thief had not stolen anything yet, and it would be difficult to prove that he was the actual thief. Birbal took the thief to the palace and introduced him to the emperor as the ‘ghost’ everyone was scared of.
Akbar: So this is the ghost that has been scaring and robbing the villagers recently. Surprisingly, he looks like a living human to me.
Thief: Your Highness, I have been falsely accused. I have never stolen anything, nor have I scared the villagers.
Akbar: What nonsense? Birbal, did you catch him red-handed? Do you have any proof that he is the ghost who has been scaring and robbing the villagers?
Birbal (scratched his head): I did not catch him red-handed, but I have proof that he is the same person who has been scaring the villagers and robbing them.
Birbal then pointed at his shirt and said, A small part of his shirt is missing, and I know where it is.
Birbal then went to the house that was robbed the day before and showed the missing part of the thief’s shirt snagged on a nail in the door.
The thief has nothing to say, and he was sent to jail for scaring and robbing the villagers.
Birbal was reinstated to his position with a huge reward for his bravery, cleverness, and loyalty.
